For an additional $2,000 supplement, you may stay at the award-winning, luxury ecolodge Campi Ya Kanzi during the 7 day team trek to Mt. Kilimanjaro's summit. During your time at Campi Ya Kanzi, you will have the opportunity to participate in various excursions, game drives, and hikes, or you may want to just relax with a glass of wine while reading a book and enjoying the scenic Mt. Kilimanjaro as your backdrop.
*We still encourage you to raise a minimum $1,000 for the wonderful work Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust does...and for the KTQ perks it may provide your team!
Deposit: A $1,000 deposit is required within two weeks of acceptance. Once participants have paid the deposit for the event, they will receive a digital acceptance package with specific trip details pertinent to the KTQ Event, event forms, as well as Kilimanjaro fundraising details.
Payment Deadlines: You may choose to pay for the KTQ Event all at once or by specific payment deadlines that we will send you in your digital acceptance package.
Fundraising: Part of the Kilimanjaro Treasure Quest is climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro as a platform to raise money and awareness for our charity partner, Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. Each participant is encouraged to raise a minimum of $1,000 through sponsorships, i.e., corporate, small business, community, friends, family, local fundraisers, etc. Each participant will raise donations through our sponsored fundraising website. 100% of all donations go directly to Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust.
As an added perk for each participant, the top three participants that raise the most money for MWCT will receive a "Treasure Pass" for their team. A "Treasure Pass” gets you closer to the $100,000 Ultimate Treasure quicker; these are what each team seeks to win during the 3-Day competition. Also, the top three fundraising participants will also win a special prize at the Commissioning of Winners' dinner.
What: The 2017 edition of Kilimanjaro Treasure Quest™ is the 1st annual world travel adventure competition with a transformative impact. We are taking twenty (20) teams of two (2), from our welcoming reception in Miami, straight to the heart of “Safari-land" in Arusha, Tanzania, and Kenya's Chyulu Hills.
This global event will crown a winning team with the ultimate treasure: a $100,000 cash prize. The event includes the amazing 3-day Treasure Quest competition, 4 days of breathtaking, private and guided safaris to the world famous Tanzanian Ngorongoro Crater and Kenya’s Chuyulu Hills. After staying at Campi Ya Kanzi, the Conde Nast and Travel + Leisures award-winning, boutique ecolodge, and spending a day being culturally immersed amongst the Maasai, each participant will spend 7 days attempting to conquer the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro as a platform to raise funds for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust.
Teams compete against each other in a 3 day competition in and around Arusha, Tanzania, trying to accumulate additional "Treasure Passes” that give them a distinct advantage to the exact whereabouts of the $100,000 Ultimate Treasure.
Day one features an enjoyable, but highly competitive Tanzanian scavenger hunt. Day two features three team challenges and three individual challenges. Day three is the $100,000 Ultimate Treasure Quest and the last day of the competition. On day three, each team will be given an envelope with 10 clues (and a map) to decipher the clues. At each location, they must find the treasure box containing a "Kili-Card" and a treasure box key. On the back of each Kili-Card is a word, combination of words, or a phrase. When all 10 cards are put together in the right order, the cards will reveal exactly where the $100,000 Ultimate Treasure is located and hidden. The first team to arrive, find the treasure box, and open it with their key wins the $100,000 Ultimate Treasure. Second and third place finishers receive consolation prizes as well.
A “Treasure Pass” gets you closer to the Ultimate Treasure quicker; these are what each team seeks to win. A "Treasure Pass" is traded in for one (1) of the ten random clues given to each team, where you will receive a treasure box key and Kili-Card without having to decipher the clue or going to the destination.
The team that wins the scavenger hunt on day one gets a "Treasure Pass." Each of the teams and individuals that win the second day competition challenges will each receive a “Treasure Pass” for their team, as well as the top three teams that raise the most money for Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. There is also a mystery "Treasure Pass" that will come into play during the competition.
The final evening, after the competition, we will have a “Commissioning of Winners” dinner, where we will announce and celebrate the winners and their prizes. We will also have additional prizes for the team that won the scavenger hunt, the team/individual competition challenge winners, as well as some fun prizes for some unique categories.
