Significance Adventure: PERU

January 18 - 29, 2019

Peru is one of the most intriguing and cultural countries. Our Significance Adventure team will mainly explore Cusco, working with local organizations and charities as distribute food and medicine to impoverished, remote villages, serve in one of the many local orphanages that house hundreds of forgotten and abandoned children, many who have been rescued from the snares of sex trafficking. and many more options.

There are so many villages outside of Cusco, tucked in the mountains, with only dusty, dirt roads that reach them. We will visit some of these villages, sharing love, distributing food and medicine, playing soccer with the kids and eating with the families. Through translators, you will have the chance to share your story and show your gifts and talents to those in need.

You will be stretched emotionally as you begin to give back to those less fortunate.  You will be stretched physically as we walk the cobble-stoned alleyways of Cusco, dusty roads of remote villages,  and the magnificent inclined steps of Machu Picchu.  This trip will allow us to meet the wonderful Peruvian people (in a non-touristy way) and have the chance to make a small impact in their communities.

Health-Extended Trip

Altitude – Our trip to Cusco, Peru, will take us to remote regions at high altitude. We always take our time to acclimatize properly by allowing for additional rest. When gaining in altitude above 10,000 feet, we have included sufficient rest or “layover” time to ensure that you acclimatize properly. While many people may experience minor ill effects from high altitudes, there are some who have persistent symptoms that require returning to a lower altitude. We do our best to allow everyone a chance to acclimatize. We cannot determine how you will do at higher altitudes, but being in the best shape possible and having a lower body fat percentage will help greatly. You are strongly advised to consult your physician for a thorough medical check-up and clearance before attempting this adventure. If you are over fifty years old, talk to your doctor about doing a “stress EKG.” Should you require any medication whatsoever, you must provide your own and be able to administer it yourself. Medical supplies in Peru are not reliable or guaranteed, though we will have a fully stocked medical kit on the trip.

Talk to your doctor about the following vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Tetanus, Polio, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Malaria pills, as well as any prescriptions you are currently taking or should take in case you get sick.

See Center for Disease Control and Prevention requirements for Peru.

The duration of training is tailored to each individual trip. For our trip to Peru it will be the evening of January 20th, and we will depart for Peru on the 21st. All domestic flights home can be booked anytime on February 1.
